Out of curiosity- why are you using 5w-40?  Why not something like  
15w50?

5w is REALLY thin, and that's the weight of the oil until it hits 100  
degrees Celsius.  I used to run 5w30 in the winter, but don't  
anymore- I run 10w30 minimum, as the 10w oil really doesn't make the  
car much harder to start.  I used to run 10w30 in the summer, now I  
run 15w50 after I found 10w30 resulted in the lower and lower oil  
pressures.
