[urq] Alternator

Brandon,
Your concern is valid. I originally was using the 200q alternator myself on my 20v conversion, but was forced to switch to a junkyard 4k alternator when I moved it to the driver's side to fit the 944t IC. Since I did that, the car runs fine but I've noticed the system voltage isn't as healthy as usual, especially with the h4 headlights on. With the lights on, it hangs out just over 12v, whereas before it read a steady 14v most of the time. There is a noticeable drop when I turn the headlights on. My plan is to dissasemble and clean the brushes on the alternator (or a spare), as well as replace the voltage regulator per Huw Powell's site to one that maintains a higher voltage regime (or at least attempts to). I hope that will help. My alternator could just be especially crusty inside, but I have definitely noticed a difference.
HTH,
Jon
