I think an important argument is that an old timer gives
a kind of undestructible , everlasting image to the brand .
That is why many garages and dealers like to have an oldtimer in their
showroom . To make people think : " oh look , it's a 1971 car in such a
great shape . That means the car we are about to buy will also last 35
years
or more . "
The commercial value of an oldtimer in a showroom , or on the road is by
far
more valuable then tv adds or flyers or whatever .
And it doesnt even cost the company a penny . On the contary , they still
gain a
"few" bucks by selling the parts needed to keep the oldtimers on the road .
Mercedes has understood this very well , that is why they have
a separate group of people doing anything within their power to
preserve and re-manufacture parts . You can order any part for
a 1950 MB , and if it's not available , wich is pretty rare , they'll
rebuild your
old part or re-manufacture it for you . And from what i've heard from a
friend , prices are quite reasonable .
