To Chris' point, I still have the "impact supports" in my trunk similar to 
US models I have seen.  I'd think the home market cars would be built to 
"take" pretty high speed rear enders.  What I don't/never had is the 
carpeted cover that goes over these crash bars.  May carpet lies flat and 
has cutouts that go around the area were the crash bars are welded to the 
frame.  All that said I just threw a stock 200 20V rim with a 215 60 15 in 
the trunk with no problem and grabbed some pix.
