I wouldn't worry about having vacuum assist instead of the hydraulic system. Audi apparently isn't, as all the new VW/Audi turbo cars use vacuum assisted brakes. While I have heard of a couple of vacuum booster failures, noone has complained of losing brake control.

Part of my choice to "go vacuum" was that the PO had removed ALL the hydraulic assist parts during the 20vt swap and replaced the brake servo with a mechanically-biased non-assist Tilton system. I definitely didn't see that as a viable long-term solution for a 99% street-use car. I couldn't put together a bomb-assist system with new parts (like I used on my setup) for 3 times what I paid for my project, even if I did want to go that route.

I had some concerns about the "safety" issue of relying on a vacuum servo, too, however there are MANY people I know of who drive the snot out of their turbo-converted cars with vacuum brakes and I have never heard of a problem.

All the same, the "final" settup on my car will likely use full 1/2" vacuum plumbing from a 1/2" OD vacuum port, as well as an extra dedicated vacuum reservoir, just to add to the factor of safety.
