Transferred message from Pierre the Frenchman, because it seems he can't
post to the list...
Hi LA (& list)
I said I would sell the car ? Must have been a bad day then.
Truth is that I got very close...but... NO WAY !
They will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers :-)
I finally lost the shop about a month or two after your visit.
I also trashed my green 82 Scirocco, gutted it and got the shell
recycled.
Currently working at my blue 87 rocket, making a serious daily driver
out of it.
About my quattro, the wheels are not Gotti but PLS-Dijon "Sebring" 3
parts, stamped alloy sheetmetal with 5 spokes cast flanges, lightweight
but also fragile. The wheels were custom order for the car and are
somewhat rare. By some luck I found a set of matching 4 spokes 2 parts
PLS "Hockenheim" for my Scirocco.
Since your visit, not much work on the quattro...but lots of driving
around,
enjoying the payback of all the hard work. For now I have no shop so the
car sits outside, back to the old muddy paved driveway...
Small things done :
- finally found a correct second hand accordion tube and removed the
free air
wastegate, have to say it was lotza fun terrorizing people ! but good
for a
while.
- Pushed out the shell right rear corner behind the bumper. Braced a 2x4
between the shock towers and used various jacks to pop out the corner so
now the bumper is straight but it is also scratched from ragging under
the cover
- Bought a Ronal wheel to have full size spare (as the saver can't go
over the
A4 brakes) mounted a tire on it and found out the hard way that a full
size spare does not fit in the trunk, doh ! so for now it is behind the
passenger seat until I can find a cheap Gr B tank (just kidding)
- recently I installed 911 HD gearbox and diff supports...they make the
shifting so much better and they cured the left diff horn banging on the
shell, no wonder, the old support was cracked ! I thought it was the
diff,
was even going to buy a SH one. so now with that and a correct
driveshaft support I can now shift up full boost and darn, it rocks.
- I also had a set of correct SH stock shocks but not yet installed them
have to, though, as the ones on the car are toasted
here you can get a video/photo-montage of the work done on the car

for some pix you can go to :

still a very long way to go with to bring the quattro to what I want it
to
be but anyhow I'll come thru ! it definitely deserves it.
tchuss,
pierre
So Pierre, you are still on this list ? Cool to know that you kept your
Quattro since you were thinking of selling it, if I remember well.
For you urQ listers, Pierre is that Frenchman that I met last year when
I was working abroad. He has a very early WR, so early that it has the
lever differential locks and no AC or sunroof, if I remember well. The
car is silver with Gotti period-correct mag wheels, wheels that I find
very cool on our cars.
Pierre, can you send us a link to some pics of your car for us all to
see the intricacies of an early Quattro (especially the diff lock setup)
?
See you in June, maybe at the 24 hours of Le Mans !
