BTDT too! Although it's not a 'subtle' clunk in any way IMO. Mike,
did you replace these bolts when you renewed the suspension? If
they're not tighened properly, then the strut housings literally rest
on the balljoint and move when hitting any bumps or other undulations
in the road. IIRC, the top of the ball joint should be just a
millimeter or two above the clamp of the strut housing.
Certainlyt worth a look.
