[urq] Anyone have a fire supression setup under the hood?

IMHO, it is always good to have a fire extinguisher in any car. I've
had two occasions to use mine in the 25 years that I have been driving -
luckily not my cars though. I would say that you are better off taking
care of the maintenance so a fire won't occur than having a dedicated
system. Imagine having this nice fire suppression system in your engine
compartment, and then have the battery short on something and start your
back seat on fire. The fire department would probably get a kick out of
that... Better off having one that you can use where needed.

You might also want to get that tank clamped down. There are even some
official Audi brackets that clamp them down right in front of the seat.
Sure would suck to get in an accident and get hit in the noggin by an
unsecured extinguisher.

I too have a 9lb OMP halon tank from a race car system that I'm trying
to figure out what to do with. I can't see putting that big thing in
the car, so for now the chrome tank just looks good hanging in the
garage with the dry (messy) extinguisher.

Also remember with halon that it displaces oxygen, like in your lungs,
so you need to very VERY careful if/when when you use it.

Seems like with a 25 year old car I should have
something in place to stop an underhood fire. Anyone
have any ideas on what's available for a low cost? I
do have an old halon fire extinguisher rolling around
in the back seat - but I think by the time I stop the
car and open the hood it would be to late.
