[urq] A/C issues

It could be a symptom of either over charge or under charge.  You need to put gauges back on it to know for sure.

An under charged system when active will drop too low on the low side of the system, causing cut-out.  An overcharged system can develop too much pressure on the high side, and also cause cut-out.

Both cases will cycle the compressor on and off... and can rapidly use up the compressor clutch.

If you have a sight glass in your dryer, you can look for bubbles while it's operating.  If you see bubbles, your system is under charged.  If you don't, it is likely overcharged.

Dave

Subject: [urq] A/C issues

 Hey guys.

My A/C is acting funny. Its an R12 system converted to R134a 3 years ago. I
ad it working pretty good ( 38 F out the center vent on a hot sunny day) before
t went into the body shop. After 2 years there it still worked!
I had my brother in law check it when I went to Carlisle, and it had 90lbs
n the low-pressure side, static, at about 75 F. I got distracted ( had to cook
or a dinner party of 8 that night!) and left the gauges installed, and lost
0lbs out of the low pressure side.
We charged it back up, and now, a couple weeks later, at idle and only at
dle, the compressor cycles rapidly as well as the vacuum switch, independant
f each other. It still blows fairly cold and will keep the car comfortable on a
ot sunny day on the highway, but I'm wondering if this is a symptom of
vercharge.

 Thanks!

  Gary
