[urq] Two jobs I'm ready to do, any tips?

OK, now that the weather is finally nice, there are a couple of jobs I want
to do in the next couple of weeks on my 83 urq. First thing is to replace the
left front wheel bearing that has been getting a bit noisier over the past
couple of years. Question is, do I have to completely remove the axle assembly
and strut tower? Or is it possible to remove the hub, pull the spline out of
the bearing, and tap/hammer out the old bearing while still on the car? I
remember doing that on early VW's and Porsches. Second job I want to complete
is to replace the rear shock strut mounts. I replaced the fronts a few weeks
ago, and it was pretty easy to drop the shocks down slightly, pull out the old
mounts and add the new ones without removing the whole assembly. The rears
look to be too far into the body to replace that way. Just wanted to know if
there were any tips before I tackled those jobs.
