Well said Martin.
Obviously everyone's emotions are running high, and so they should be.
If I had an original car such as Mike Hoptons 83 and 85 I'd be wanting to keep
it that way. The fact that you can't get a $5 sunvisor clip is ridiculous. Yes sure you can
make one from another car fit, but that's how it all starts. Eventually that car will become
less and less UR over time. It's more principal than anything else.
Yes my urq has a 20v and that suits my personality just fine, however it's not original. For some
pursuits that's not good enough. I used to say to myself s"stuff Audi I'll make, modify the part
myself", however if push comes to shove and I have to make a ball joint fit from another car and like
Mike said there's liability issues down the road, the insurance company's would have a field day with
stuff like that. Not to mention the repocutions if anyone were to be injured.
The bottom line is when I see Audi promoting there quattro system in TV commercials it makes me sick to
my stomach. They've basically said too bad your on your own.
I think for a car that had a major part in keeping the company on the forefront of thinking and probably
had a major part in keeping the company afloat, that the way they are treating us pursuists with lack of servicable
parts is in fact a sad day indeed. The early quattro's basically paved the way to the sucess that the company enjoys today.
Way to go Audi.
Cheers,
Craig Cook

Scott,
Just sending this to the group because yet again I am trying to make you see
that this is not a personal attack against you, just a difference of
opinion.
Having owned an all original example I can tell you it would pain me, yes me
(Craig and Mike can't believe it either), to put on anything but an original
part. I appreciate a car that has been taken care of for the last 25 years
and is still as good as it was when few years old.
We are talking about cars that cost $50k when new. Porsche or any other high
profile car maker would not abandon their customers like this.
I have nothing against you personally, however statement suggesting that if
you look hard enough you can find anything, that's just bull. I have been
looking and I can tell you there are plenty of parts that I have yet to
find.
Collector car prices for parts? Well, we (or at least most of us) want
these to be collector cars deep down, but Audi is not making it possible by
their actions.
For a SQ owner not to be able to get a simple windshield which BTW has been
put on millions of 4000 and Euro 80/90? I find that a slap to the face to
someone who just spent 100k Euro on their car because they have see it on
their commercials and just happen to get it cracked while on the Autobahn.
Yes, at least that part is available aftermarket, however if I was paying
100k Euro I would want see the Audi logo on that windshield.
Anal, yes, when it comes to UR (which means Original to anyone who still
doesn't know), it should be UR, not "it was UR but now it's something else"
Peace out.
Martin
