I wanted to try starting my car this morning and figured I'd take a couple pics while I was out there. Never did get the car started since I could not get the garage door opened. It's frozen SOLID!
anywho, data point, car is an 84, boot and decals are original. Looks like they are centered on the ribbed panel...

  Bob,

The euro trims (855 853 489/490) are shorter because they don't have lamps :
the ribbed section length look the same. So decal placement should be the
same for all markets. According to ETKA (8, 53, 82-00, item 26), there is a
specific trim part (855 853 489A/490A) for North America and Swiss and
Austria (because they had a US-sized license plate IIRW).

Anyone with an Euro setup on the trunk lid can measure the length of the
ribbed section ? For the USA/Canada part, the length of that section is 332
mm top and 321 mm bottom. The lamp boss is 50 mm wide.
