A couple of comments from an old rally guy back in the 80's.? As a rule, yellow lenses put out 15% less light output than a clear bulb lense.? The purpose of them (other than France = mandatory), really is to give less reflection in high humidity conditions (ala snow, fog, heavy rain).? They can work well in H4 applications, but IME, the euro pattern is less desired to realize these benefits, where the old Cibie' Z-Beams (no euro upper slant pattern, basically a fog pattern) did better here.? I don't see much advantage in running a H1 high beam, because the benefit of a high beam to the conditions of a yellow lense is counterproductive.? IME with euro conversions (200/urq/v8), I like to modify the wiring to make the H4 (55/65w) high beam separate from the H1/H3 (100w) high beam.? This allows 3 levels of light, H4 low, H4 high, H4/H1-H3 high.? IME with spring/fall fog and snow conditions in my stormin travels thru Michigan, this setup.?
IME2, adding a good set of amber fogs is the best compliment to the euro light setups.? I've run Cibie 195 amber fogs on several vehicles (GLH turbo, scirroco, work station wagon, and 87 4Runner turbo) and found that the amber lense with a fog cutoff can really add to the low beam visiblility.? For the limited time amber lense has the advantage however, I'm not sure I'd consider a yellow lense as the DD H4 replacement.? I'd also question the legality of amber lense mains everywhere but France, which is probably why they are hard to find.

Hi Pat,
I tried too to install these yellow lens headlamps, but never found new old
stock that were not too expensive.
The solution is to order Bosch 110x166 headlamps : SQB46 (H4 bulb) and
SQB46H (H1 bulb). (about 125$CDN each pair)
http://www.boschlightsandmore.com/products_headlight_conversion_kits.htm
And then, find some H4 with the clipped yellow caps, like these :
http://dbtuned.com/pics/Yellow%20H4.jpg. I bought mine on www.ebay.fr for 20
euros for a kit that contained a dozen other various bulbs from the 80's.
And then, the hardest part : find some H1 yellow for the high beams.
I'm 2/3 complete on my urQ : i'm still looking for the H1 yellows, if such a
thing ever existed.

Has ayone ever seen these .
I've seen them once on a 1982 coupe .
They originated from a TYP43 turbo .
The so called 2T . Audi's first turbo car .
And the yellow lights were France only .
They're an exact match to the pre 1983 ur-q
headlights and can be substituted .
It looks real great .
But helas , impossible to obtain nowadays .
Even the white square headlights are hard to find ,
and the plastic trim around it is even harder .
