Sealant was not used on the originals, BUT if you have one installed  
by a professional glass company, they will use urethane in the  
gasket.  They say that this is a safety requirement now for ALL  
installations, even those using gaskets and those nasty metal strips  
with teeth.

I worked at a gas company (doing stereo/alarm/phone installations to  
pay for college) and at the time they were just starting to use  
urethane on gasketed windshields that didn't fit well.
