[urq] sand

I guess someone would have to quantify the amount. I have a hard time
believing that a few grains, here or there, gaining entry from the intake
would be any worse for the cylinders than that from carbon deposits that
would occasionally come loose from higher mile engines. I would think
they would be expelled pretty quickly and need constant entry to really
cause damage.

Next message: [urq] Damaged cylinder walls caused by sand?
Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ]

Last summer (2009) I had my GV engine rebuild at 300K KM and the shop said
there was damage on several cylinder walls recognized as sand. We checked
all air related intake hoses but couldn't find any cracks or splits etc.
What are the 'usual suspects' of getting sand in the cylinder
compartments?

Thanks.

Regards,
Maurits
