I believe they sprayed wax in there before they the went to the galvanized bodies on the type 44....anyway, you may want to get on this because the interior parts of fenders sills etc can be far worse than the outside.

... you betcha! Accumulated residue from any salt the car has experienced
over its life will accelerate and damage. I haven't noticed this on the
side sills of my car, but the bottom side of the hood right behind the front
edge is showing signs of internal damage.
That is what is so good about Audi going to the galvanized metal in the
newer cars ... even the areas you can't easily get to will be protected.

I know in the NEast starting around September a car left outside is soaking
wet many mornings. Is that temperature drop also creating and trapping
water in the sills? Do manufacturers have a way to manage this? I've seen
so many urqs with rotted sills. My sill now has a dot of rust that seems
to have started within.
