New Booster.
The old one worked, just leaked. I obtained a completely resealed booster. It is
operating pretty much the same as the old one, without the small drip that was coming
out of the retainer screw.
I don't think the booster would cause this problem, nor the bomb. A bad booster would
have hard pedal due to no assist.
I have a soft pedal - car running or not.
Please let me know if this is not correct, but I think I have a combination of problems
- master (leaking internally), possible bad/going bad proportioning valve and or bias
not compensating, possible line sponginess (new lines ordered) and/or fittings not
sealing.
I will do everything at once, even though I know one should generally do one change at a
time. I'm so far past that point, I think I need to start with new parts all around. I
have bled this system innumerable times. The original booster had been purged of its
contents many times - mostly due to bad rack to bomb hose. That was fixed, but the left
rear caliper was dragging - it was time for new rears. There may have been component
problem casuig the rear caliper to drag , but probably just old and internal corrosion -
rotor was toast.
I have both masters on order. I would think the later version is more correct since it
is used on the later 5000 - that is the car the front brakes came off.
I may go ahead with the Porsche Black 4 Pot monoblocks - I think they come off a 944.
Anyway they bolt right up, unlike the Big Red that needs adaptors.
I ordered a Willwood proportioning valve:

New lines all-around - nbot the solid lines - they are fine,m just the rubbeer lines. I
may have some trouble bleeding a mostly fresh system, but it shouldnt' be worse than
what I have now ( I hope).

Ben:
What did you do to solve the hydraulic booster problem you had?
Despite all the good 'theories' about matching the MC and calipers, my experience is the
same as Scott J's -- I've used V8/S4 rears and big red (stoptech) fronts with the stock
23mm MC without any noticeable difference in pedal travel. Are you sure the booster
isn't still the problem?
