What is this stuff?  Is it necessary?  Can blue loctite be used as a
sbustitute?

I may have never used the manual when I was removing an axle, so far only on
V8s and when I helped a friend on his urS4.  I've never seen mention of any
locking compound on the axle splines.

Also, in regard to resuing the axle nut, is blue loctite an acceptable
substitute to using a new nut each time?

Rookie questions?
