Good !

Sorry about the confusion left-right, i meant the rack fully retracted to the left as you found out...

Now, don't cut that hose as it is NLA. But you can always rebuild it with the old end fittings and a new rubber hose crimped by an hydraulic shop.

And congrats for that new job; what are you doing there?

Bingo! Thanks for all the help, guys. I don't know why I didn't think of coming at it from above, but I didn't really want to use too much persuasion the other day in case there was a flange lip to contend with. I pretty much followed L-A, except I put the steering full *right* (left lock put the tie rod bracket in the way). Pry bar and a BFH (actually SFS--small f'n sledge--one of my favorite tools because it's easier to swing a big hammer softly than try to wail away with a small one). After two good love taps I could see it move, and the rest of the way was just fighting the galvanic "paste".

As soon as it was free I confirmed that the clutch was once again engaged, which means the problem is almost certainly isolated to the hydraulic system. I'll take Scott's SMRpray advice.

Now that the weather is finally cooling down, I'm itching to get the urq out on the road. Lots of guys at my new place of employment are eager to have a look/ride. Oh, did I mention that last month I started working for the MotherShip? (New VW plant here in Chattanooga)
