The guys at Mecaglisse ice race track uses some trick ContiIceRacingContact
tires mounted on 4 in wide spare steelies. I've being aboard a Subie that
rode these, and this was just the scariest ride in my life. The grip was
between a summer tire on asphalt and a dirt tire on sand. And since they
were studded at the factory, longevity is much longer than any home-brew
setup. Expensive donuts though.

See these as an example.

Summer's over; it's time to think about ice racing!
Who's had any experience, good or bad, with mounting studs in tires please?
Scott J I can't believe you've never done this.....
We want to start with Audi S4 spare "donuts" since they'll clear the brakes
with no problem.
We're considering everything from nuts & bolts with big washers to kits
designed for snowmobiles.
So who's BTDT??
Thanks
Steve Schmidt
