You could always shove a rag in to the cylinder before starting work (to
stop bits dropping right in) and then retrieve it with long forceps or a
wire hook after. and then put a pipe in attached to the vacuum to suck out
if anything left behind. If you still then miss some, It's certainly going
to be smaller swarf and less damaging bits than has already passed through
by the sound of it. You don't have much to lose really. If the big bits of
plug have done damage you're facing a strip down anyway....... Also you
could see if you can find someone with an endoscope...and have a look around
inside.
