Thanks. I checked the specs on the 2 filters and both have 2.5 bar bypass and both have anti drainback. The A4 one is fat and like you say the V8 one is long and skinny. I did find when I took the oil water cooler apart that there were cardboard pieces inside the coolant side of the housing that were beginning to disintegrate. Bad omen.

i think that filter would do fine,  the other alternative that comes to mind is
the filter for the early 3.6 & 4.2 engines in the original V8 car,  "standard"
diameter and very long , oem # 077 115 561E ,  just a thought.........m

Subject: [urq] Oil Filter Question

I am in the process of converting my V8 UrQ from oil/water cooling which
was stock on the ABZ to a separate dedicated air/oil cooler. I am using a
GReddy oil filter housing with built in thermostat. The larger oil filters
I use on the 1.8t in my 2004 A4 fit perfectly on this housing and the the
seal seems to line up with the oil filter housing. My question is this....
will the 1.8t filter (Mann or Mahle OEM) be capable of handling the ABZ oil
flow and/or pressure? I know nothing about oil filter requirements except I
know it fits, and I imagine different filters have different flow rates.
There is no "OEM" cannister oil filter for the ABZ because it has a paper
filter type deal in a dedicated aluminum housing. Any thoughts are greatly
appreciated.
