Hi Chris,
The direct bolt is a vacuum booster from 1981-84 Coupe/4000.
The later booster does not allow use of the original Master Cylinder.
In your case you will have to use booster with MC and CGT reservoir/lines.
Pump is identical CGT or Urq, it matters not which one you use, no mods
needed.
Steering racks are also identical so no need to change that either.
Hope this helps.

brakes/powersteering
So while we're on the topic of vacuum brake set ups in the UrQ I have a few
questions that I hope the group can answer. I have an UrQ and it's
basically 100% original. I also have most of the vacuum brake setup from a
CGT which includes the vacuum brake booster, the PS pumpm, and the steering
rack. I've heard several versions of what I can/should do. I'm not 100%
what to eliminate on my UrQ in regards to all the hoses and what not. I've
heard that I can just eliminate some hoses and use the original pump. I've
also heard that I need to use the CGT pump and it would be just fine.
Also.....I've heard that I should use the CGT pump but must change a spring
or something inside or else it will blow the seals in the UrQ rack.
Also.....I've heard that I need to swap to the CGT pump AND steering rack.
Installing the vacuum booster isn't a problem for me, but the PS pump stuff
is confusing. Can anyone that's BTDT help a guy out? My bomb is pretty
much shot so you can imagin
e how much fun that is. I have no intention in fixing the hydraulic assist
system and am anxious to just put the vacuum system in so I may have fully
operational brakes again.
Thanks in advance,

Hmmm... Several years ago, I looked at putting one of these cruise control
umps on my vacuum diffs for my 83 urq to help with high altitude ck valve
reezing+sustained boost of the Steamboat Ice track conditions at 7200ft.
reezing+In
hicago I measured a whopping 17inHg (altitude 660ft) as max for the 3 CC
pumps tested. In addition, they took quite a while to fill a couple vacuum
esevoirs of less than 1qt total. At 660ft a 20vt engine can generate about
5inHg at idle, and just under 30inHg under compression braking, so I went
the oute of larger and better ck valves and more resevoir capacity.
If you look at the cam driven vacuum pump on a 10v N/A car from Audi (mid
80's B hassis cars), you can see that the fitting ID is something around
3/8in so the refill' time to normal vacuum is almost instantaneous. That
bitty line from he CC unit will likely run continuous duty and still come up
short without a ouple extra reservoirs in the system. Again, if 'reserve
capacity' is a oncern, just add the reservoirs and an additional large ck
valve downstream of he IM. On my 4ktq, I use 3/8 line to feed from the back
of the 3B intake anifold to the stock 4kq booster ck valve. I run the stock
4k master with G60 ronts A4 Rears.
The best thing about the vacuum setup in the turbo cars, is deleting that
rimitive bomb arrangement Audi delivered on the urq from the factory. You
on't see that hydraulic setup on Audi turbo cars after the urs cars.... For
ood reason IMO.
Cheers and my .02

asier than this, Renault diesels from the beginning of the 2000's have a
pump hat we all know too well.
It's exactly the same Bosch unit that powers the cruise control on turbo
cars...
older or newer.
Standalone 12V unit, with a check valve and rubber mounting for quietness of
peration.

I guess these are a dime a dozen in a scrapyard.

f you do insist on having a vacuum assisted brake, then get one of those
vacuum pumps from a diesel engine to power it. Some iesels, Ford Transit
fyi, have a vacuum pump on the alternator. Easy and ffective.
