This is correct, I just did a retrofit of the 'new' style to the urq a couple months ago. The 'new' and still available Clutch Masters come with a shorter rod, and they don't come with studs. To retrofit that part to the urq, you need to remove the linkage from the urq Master, and swap it with the linkage from the 'new' style Master. 1 Circlip, but remember that also holds all the Master Cylinder guts as well.

2 M8 x 45 bolts with nylon lock nuts on install, yer done.

The other option, is to take the urq master apart, hone the inside of the master, and install the guts from the new Master with the urq linkage attached. BTDT2.

Cheers and HTH

ISTR from long ago others indicating that the linkage on the replacement parts
was too short. Since your car apparently did not have the clutch M/C installed
it is difficult to say. The newer quattros didn't have the M/C mounted to the
firewall, so the linkage is shorter.

If you believe that you received the incorrect replacement part it and yet have
the old M/C you should be able to transfer the linkage from the old M/C to the
new one. If you take off the boot the linkage goes in to on the M/C you will
see that there is a clip that holds it in the M/C's bore ... remove the clip
from the two parts and swap the linkage from one to the other and reinstall the
clip. BTDT ... although I think it was on a 4kQ.
