[urq] gearbox leak

Pat, Jim
Thank you so much for you help. I love this list. I joined the quattro
Owners Club (UK) in 1998, was an area organiser for 10 years and remain a
member but have received more friendly assistance from the urq list than
anywhere else during that time. I've given some too but I think I'm still in
a deficit position! :-)
Today I (re-)discovered a coupe quattro gearbox in my garage that I had
forgotten about so I will have a practice run at dismantling the tail end
and replacing the oil seal before doing it for real on the WR.
Thanks again all.
Kind regards

Keith

yesterday....)

Yes the p/n
For the oil seal nr 7 is *014409400AA
For the o-ring nr 9 *010325381A

The oil seal is bound to be a std metric oil seal , but it's dimensions are
not listed .
Audi price is abt 20€ , "normal" price in a parts shop will be about 5€ .
Oil seals are sold with 3 dimensions : eg 47/30/5 47 being the outer dial ,
30 the shaft dial and 5 the height .
If you buy one at a shop , ask for a double lip deal .
The large o-ring is 90*4.2 mm audi price 9€ , shop price most likely half
an euro .

If my memory doesn't deceive me , you have to remove the 3 bolts nr 28 , and
then you can pull out the entire diff .
I don't rememer if the flange comes out without the diff or not .
The prop shaft flange is held by some circlips wich hads to be removed .
Then you can press the flange out of it's bearing granting you acces to the
oil seal .
Remove the old oils seal with a large screwdriver , it'll be destroyed in
the process .
the seal , not the screwdriver :)
Put gently tap or press in a new one , and make sure it sits dead straight .
Packt he space between the lips with grease .
And put it all back together again .

Good luck
Pat
