[urq] ABT ignitionbox

... I was surprised to see that this was not mentioned already ...

To my mind and IME, the person who started much of this madness was Robert
Houk, and to this date his open source information is quite useful and tough
to beat! While "RDH" has moved on, fortunately he has left his website
intact. I heartily encourage all urquattro fans to become familiar with the
following page:

	http://www.tiac.net/~rdh/http/Urq/index.htm

IIRC from this site you will find the binary for a chip that will plug into
your MAC-02 and address some of the issues from the factory (but finding the
requisite EPROM device might be daunting). The thing is that the chip is
only half the answer to increased output from the WX. You need to do
something to increase the maximum boost that the engine will produce. This
is done by modifying the wastegate. Most people install a stiffer WG
spring. I opted for Paul Timmerman's Schrappnell Knobben, which uses some
of the boost pressure to stiffen the spring in an adjustable fashion. My
urq ('83 model) also had the adjustable wastegate spring perch in the cap.
In addition to RDH and Schrappnell Knobben, you can do searches for "QLCC"
and such for other information.

I'd also recommend that you can look through Scott Mockry's website
(www.sjmautotechnik.com) and Martin Pajak's site (www.quattro.ca). All
these sites and more are listed on the urquattro yahoo group
(groups.yahoo.com/group/urquattro)

... bottom line ... yes, you should be able to plug that ABT box into your
car, but you will not notice much change unless you remove the wastegate
spring from the same car and install it into your wastegate. BTW, the WG
spring swap is usually quite easily done.

HTH!

If anyone has an extra ABT or similar "chip" that will work with my
otherwise stock 83WX, I would be interested.

Yes the stock computer can be chipped as I have one from my old 10v. And
some of the things are a Fast Start and Increased boost without running lean
Fast Start makes it so when you are starting the car it doesn't have to
crank over so many times before it fires up, Just hit the key for 1 second
and it fires up!
The addition of a zener diode will make it run lean at top end without fuel
distributor mods!
