I've uploaded a couple of pictures of the cut in half prefilter .
It really is a filter , altough it doesn't look that way on the outside .
Then I decided to have some fun with the lathe and milll.and made a
serviceable version using a chep cartridge filter from donaldson .
It's a bit bulkier the the original and I know the finish could be better .
But it'll do just fine I guess .
I understand perfectly not everyone has acces to this kind of equippement .
But hey , I had a great time doning this , and maybe it'll inspire someone
.

My car is an '87 WR and the fuel system components remain unchanged from
standard and the component between tank and pump definitely does not contain
a filter. It is clear plastic and is just a baffle/ sediment trap and is
clear as a bell, no sediment present (which is reassuring). This is strange
becuase the parts list definitely dascribes this as a filter.
Most odd.
