Dave
Here in the UK I have used and had excellent service from
http://www.germanautopartsdirect.co.uk/index.html for head bolts, head
gaskets and tappet shims. They have a "shop" on Ebay UK. Pete Reeve at
http://www.quattrocorner.com/ is excellent and has huge experience/stock and
can get even the difficult stuff for quattros. What I would say about
exhaust manifold studs/nuts is you can get suitable studs almost anywhere
but make sure you get the correct OEM nuts and don't be tempted to re-use
old ones (same goes for head bolts).
Re: valve cover gaskets - I have always found the cork ones to seal better
than the rubber ones. Be careful buying water pumps on line - there are (not
so) subtle differences - number of teeth on the pulley and piss-poor plastic
instead of steel impellors.
Hope this helps

Dave ,
I'de advise you to do some searching on ebay .
UK and /or DE would be my first choices .
There are numerous vendors out there that sell engine parts , bolts , full
gasket sets
t-belt kits etc quite often at real bargain prices .
Most of the time they cross reference to the genuine audi p/n's
Intake and exhaust studs , bolts and nuts are M8 wich is very common in
europe .
Might be a bit harder to find in the us though .
If all else fails , I can always arrangetio buy them here and ship them .
Oh and btw , to torque the headbolts , make sure you het the right 12 point
tool .
