Does your car have the auto check system or just the three lights
indicating over temp, low oil pressure, and seat belt? 

If your car has the auto check system (responds with icons and reports
"OK" at startup if everything is normal) you should have connectors for
the pad wear indicators. There should be a wire coming through the
fender liner or something.

But if you car does not have the auto check system, you won't have any
pad wear indication (at least not that I'm aware of). Is it possible
that the previous owner got the wrong pads and just installed them
without connecting the wear indicators?
