Maybe it's time for a new filter. Can't be all that spendy.
The problem with the ignition switch on your wife's A6 sounds like the
common ignition switch cracking. The switch housing cracks and the key no
longer returns from the start position. If you don't notice, you end up
like I did with a dead starter (which really sucks!!). Good thing you got
the switch replaced.
