Hi,

$400 sounds a little on the excessive side... It took me about 2.5 hours to 
replace the switch in my 1994 90S (I took my time messing with the airbag). 
The switch is $25 from www.thepartsconnection.com. I think it's around $40 
at the dealer.

The bentley method for replacing the switch goes roughly as follows (follow 
at your own risk):
1) Disconnect battery and airbag power.
2) Remove driver's side airbag.
3) Remove steering wheel.
4) Remove column trim and switches.
5) Remove instrument cluster.
6) Replace switch (use blue lock-tite on the two setscrews holding the switch).

Some people have reported that you can get the instrument cluster out if 
you just remove the column trim (two philips screws from the bottom). If 
that's the case, you should be able to change that switch in less than an hour.

I wrote up a more detailed procedure for ignition switch replacement about 
a month ago. You should be able to find it in the list archive.

You definitely want to get that switch replaced immediately. If you forget 
to turn the key back you'll fry the starter. It's about $330 for a rebuilt 
starter!!!! (BTDT).
