The electrical gremlin might be the return spring on the ignition switch or
the relay that cuts off the power to all the peripheral units when you turn
the car on. I recently had the return mechanism replaced on the wife's A6Q
and it cost about $40 for the part and an hours worth of labor. The power on
relay definitely costs more, but it's a simple plug in item.
If it's the return mechanism on the ignition switch I would be careful about
the position of the key when you start up the car. If the key doesn't return
to the correct position you could leave the starter motor engaged and damage
the fly wheel or starter.
No idea as to what the transmission screech could be.
Good luck
