[V6-12v] instrument cluster ribbon cable

I took the instrument cluster out of my '94 100 S to explore
replacing the ignition switch. I disconnected 10 wiring
harnesses going into the cluster. But on the left side of
the cluster, there was a 5-wire ribbon cable, about an inch
long, that didn't seem to be connected to anything. I put
it all back together (except for that ribbon cable), and
everything seems to be working properly.

Q. To what does that little ribbon cable connect?

On a related note, disconnecting some of the electrical
connectors was difficult. I had trouble prying out the
locking tabs on each side while pulling the connector.

Q. Any tips on releasing the locking tabs while pulling
on the connector? Is there a cheap tool that pries
    them apart while pulling?

Thanks.
