[V6-12v] The heartbreak of oil leaks

Yeah, and actually, it's such a pain in the ass, major procedure, getting 
under the intake manifold to get to that pan gasket, you may as well do those 
check valves and anything else that requires you to take apart the whole intake 
manifold while you're under there! Bear in mind also that every time you 
slacken off those intake manifold bolts, Audi recommend you re-tighten the head 
bolts a quarter turn, and that you only get two quarter turns after the initial 
install before you have to replace the head bolts. So if you're taking off the 
intake manifold, replace ALL the seals and gaskets therein while you're doing 
it!

While we're on the subject of oil leaks, anyone have an instinct on where a 
minor leak on mine may be coming from? Here's the unusual thing - I get a whiff 
of burning oil after braking. I can't see any obvious leaks around the block, 
and the dreaded pan gasket was done about a year ago... any idea what would 
throw oil FORWARD onto something hot? In my experience you usually get a whiff 
of burning oil on accelleration if there's a leak on the block because it 
dumps a drop or two of oil back onto the exhaust pipes... but on decelleration, 
i've never encountered it before...
