[V6-12v] A/C compressor comes on

I've heard of the A/C compressor switching off due to too low an
exterior temp (within a few degrees of freezing), but never of one
coming as a problem with the compressor itself. The circuits in the
dash and the interior of the cabin are very finicky when it comes to
voltage stability, and audi uses multiple voltage stabilizers in the
circuit designs... for example, when the battery voltage starts to drop
too low due to a borderline failing battery, the car might still start,
but the sunroof will either ignore commands or start operating in
unexpected manners. I suspect that either your battery/charging system
voltages are off (such as your battery is dying), OR one of the voltage
stabilizers in the dash that affects the A/C button reading function
has seen better days.
