I was putting leather conditioner on my new-to-me '94 100 S Avant.
I was doing the back seat, and had pulled it up to clean the back
and seat belt holes. After lots of moving it around, I smelled
smoke. The plastic covering the positive post on the battery had
come loose, and the seat's metal bars had shorted out. An inch of
metal rod on the seat was bright red hot, and the foam was smoking
and melting fast. Fortunately, I saved the car. :-)
I put two layers of electrical tape on the offending seat metal,
and taped the plastic protector in place on the battery.
