The oil leak you're describing is probably coming from an oval shaped seal
that does indeed lie in between the V, underneath the intake manifold.
It's a bugger of a job to get the intake manifold components off and on, in
order to replace one £3 seal! However, while you're in there, you may as well
replace the... I can't remember the exact term, but there is an oil pressure
release valve under there which can only be accessed by removing that cover, and
can eventually cause noisy tappets all round, so while you're in there...
One important thing to note is that because the intake manifold is secured
downward at an angle to the cylinder head, the manual stresses that whenever you
have slackened off the intake manifold bolts, you must re-tighten the
cylinder head bolts a quarter turn.
As I remember, removing all the intake manifold is one of the major bits of
work to be done when replacing the cylinder head gaskets too, and since you
have to open the rocker gaskets to re-tighten the cylinder head bolts, it may be
worth considering going the whole hog and doing a cylinder head gasket while
you're taking it all apart... As long as you have the cam angle and crank pin
tools, that is...
Good luck!
James
Remember to replace all the gaskets for the intake manifold components while
you're taking it apart and all the rubber O-rings for the injectors.
