Joo want stories?
Joo got it..
I've been putting off some repairs on my '96 2.8 FronTrac A4 for a
while now, but since the tax return came back and closing costs on my first
house were lower then expected I decided to blow the $$ on my 2nd favorite
love, my car.. (First being my wife)...
I've had clunking in my front suspension for a while now and the
suspect being the notorious control arms.. Grrrr those damn things don't
last long.. I replaced them 3 years ago when I first bought my A4.. I also
had a 1n2 trouble code appear at random times and they diagnosed to be a
leaking intake manifold gasket.. Also my A/C evaporator took a shit last
summer and it was a LARGE quoted job cause of all the labor. :(
I told my trusted Audi mechanic to fix the front clunking, replace
the gasket, and hook me up with some A/C.. He also said he'd replace the
injector gaskets while he was in there. They ordered the parts and the
evaporator was back-ordered. I told them to go ahead with the suspension and
gasket job and hopefully the evaporator would come in shortly. My mechanic
quoted me at ~1700$ for the job and we agreed upon 1500$ cash.. Amazing what
real US dollars can do. :)
Well they started on the job and both the upper and lower front
control arms needed replacing, $$, also some transmission plate was totally
missing, $$, and a rear link was bad as well, $$.. :( I gave them the go
ahead cause the evaporator was still back-ordered and the total was now
approaching the limit.
When all was said and done my 1600$ cash gave me an entirely new
front suspension, intake gasket, injector seals, some tranny plate, a rear
control arm of sorts, and I'm the proud owner of an evaporator in it's
shipping box. Holy Crap is what my wife said.
Some day when I can come up with the extra 500$ for installation of
that evaporator I'll have my chilly-willy back too.. Glad it's still SNOWING
here in Binghamton NY only cause I don't need the A/C but I got a pool now
that I'd really like to see. :)

PS - Anyone try tackling an evaporator replacement or because of the R12/13
stuff does it make it illegal for me to try? Also my A4 sure seems less
peppy then it use to be or it might be because I was honored with driving my
GOOD friend's twin turbo'd 320 HP '99 Mitsu 3000 GT VR4 for the week while
my baby was away.. :)

okay so whats going on ..its WAY to quiet. I can't believe with all these
AUDI's none of them are breaking ! :-)
We need some complaints / stories/ fixes to keep the juices flowing. Anybody
got any updates on fixes? ,I think as a group to be successfull we need more
feedback from guys who ask for advice, let us know if fixes help and what
things you find when fixes don't help. As a small community of motorheads we
need as much info as we can get to make us stronger.
Okay so there we have it, at least maybe I have made some AUDI
controversy ! It would be nice to know if any progress or anything has been
tried on the :
1. Hesitation problem somebody had with the Automatic, and the vibration
2. The oil leak that was suspected in the Valley Pan gasket ( A
procedure for that pig of a Job sounds great )
3. Our teeth counting timing belt procedure ! any body try it ?
anyway just my .02c Canadian ..well actaully its getting close to .02cents
American ...ouch ..go Euro ...oops i think I just made more controversy :-)
