[V6-12v] O2 sensor scam

hey all,
I have a question about the o2 sensors in the 2.8 12v engine. Or rather the OBD2 system in the car and control unit.
Can I replace only one of the o2 sensors and splice all the other o2 harnes sensor wires  into the new sensor wire? I can't see the need for 4 o2 sensors really other than ultimate eficiency.  Has anyone done this? Will it fool the OBD2? The real question is can I be a total cheap ass? Thanks, BA
