Yes, a flaky ignition switch can cause all sorts of weird behavior.

"The switch is held in place by two set screws. To loosen then you
need a small flat head screwdriver. The screws are covered with some
red loc-tite (or maybe it's just paint) that keeps them from vibrating
loose."
