[V6-12v] blink-blink-blink vs blinkblinkblink

The "Brake Light" warning light came on in my '94 100 S Avant. The left rear was out. 
The old bulb was a P21/5W. My FLAPS had the "equivalent" 1034, which is what I got.  
The brake light seems to work fine. But now, where my right side turn signal goes 
blink-blink-blink, like normal, the left side goes blinkblinkblink, about twice as fast as 
the right side.  My initial thought was "turn signal bulb burnt out", but a check of the 
lights showed both left front and left rear signals blinking, but blinking fast.

Could it be the 1034 "equivalent" bulb isn't equivalent?
