[V6-12v] Rear Diff Seal?

Got a look under the new Quattro for the first time yesterday on my
mechanic's lift. There is some fluid seeping down from the rear diff, coming
from next to the OS inner CV joint by the looks. Is there some kind of seal
there? If so how painful a job is it to renew, and how do I check/top-up the
rear diff fluid level?
