[V6-12v] Tailgate trim removal

Is there a good description somewhere on removing the inner panel on the rear liftgate on a 1996 A6 Avant (C4)?

I've got a failing/failed rear wiper motor and I've tried to get at it, managing to damage the trim panel. After the sound of cracking plastic became overwhelming, I stopped halfway through.

Any guidance would be appreciated.
