Well, it took me a whole of one hour (probably more like 40 minutes) to change the cam position sensor. The VW dealer had quoted $45 for doing this work. But to be fair he had a question mark next to the price.
My fear of disconnecting the wires did not materialize thanks to the instructions and hints that you guys gave me. The most difficult part was working with the tip of my fingers trying to loosen the screws.
One thing though, the new part looked exactly the same as the old one inside. There was a yellow spot on the small silver coloured strip of the old one. The new one had a very small yellow spot. But, other than that the parts looked the same. The car has started twice now, but it did that at the dealer when they wiggled the wires and cleaned the connection a bit. Lets see if it keeps starting. To move the car into the garage I had to put the car in gear and use the starting motor to inch it forward. I hope it did not hurt anything too much. Time will tell.
Again, thank you for all your help.
