[V8] CV Joint Removal?!

I attempted to do a boot on my 89 200q a while ago. I used the socket in the hole method and it mushroomed inside and I ended up actaully breaking the CV itself.

The boot kit I had purchased came with a big bolt. I thought it was a new replacement bolt and wondered why it had a allen wrench head instead of a common 6-point bolt head. I also wondered why it was threaded all the way up when the original bolt was not.

Answer: The bolt in the kit was to be used for removing the CV from the axle. It was a tool supplied in the kit.

I got a used axle assembly from Chris @ Force 5 and just installed it, old boots and all. (I was a bit frustrated by then.) I did clean the two boots on the new/used axle and then treated them with silicone. That was at least a year ago, guess I could slide under there and see how they're doing...

PS. I started the job by using torx instead of triple square on the inner cv bolts. ;-(

Don't use a bigger breaker bar, it won't do a thing! I had the same
problem, its because the bolt is not long enough to 'push' the shaft out
the other side. I had to put a small socket inside the 'hole' to act as a
shim to push the shaft out. I'm sure others have better ideas, but that
one worked for me. Once you have the proper setup it isn't too hard to
thread the bolt in far enough to break through the hog nose on the inside!

                            Good Luck,
                                Jason
