The transmission on my long departed '90 V8 decided to stop propelling the
car in reverse, so I checked every source (I thought) that I could find in
this rural state (Maine).
Turns out that one of the transmission places in Portland and Bangor was a
ZF authorized dealer and repair facility. They came and picked up the car
and hauled it away, to return it about three weeks later operating
perfectly.
It was VERY expensive, but it was a perfectly OEM rebuild, at about $2000
less than it would have been had I gone to the dealer. The big item for me,
was a new pinion gear, which they said showed signs of having been frigged
with before.
At any rate, it is the same transmission as is in the BMW 730, albeit with a
front drive component that the BMW doesn't have. I would probably do a
rebuild the same way, if it happens again. (It better not!).
