Back to basics - spark, fuel, compression.

Smell fuel.

Pull a plug, it is one of those fancy Bosch 4 electrode plugs, even says
Audi on it.

Place on engine, peer through gap between hood and cowl, crank - ZAP! ZAP! ZAP!

Got spark, and the timing belt *must* be OK. Besides codes were 4 4 4 4 ,
or all OK.

Plug looks a little grotty, pull another, its worse.

Go buy eight new spark plugs, install (race with the rain), cross fingers,
crank engine . . .

ROARRRRR!!!!!

Yeeehaaaa!

Conclusion - old plugs were marginal, when the battery finally died, there
was not enough to spark and clear off the deposits, so they fouled. New
battery couldn't clear *thoroughly* fouled plugs. Plugs replaced, and away
we go . . .

Best Regards,
