Yes, and there are all sorts of different bass sounds, too. Depending upon what kind of music is listened to, the muddy, thudding bass sound coming from the "candy man's" Nissan Sentra jumping up and down Duvall Street in Key West is different from the gentle bass making the commentators on NPR sound human.
One or two bass drivers under the rear shelf of the V8 driven through a 20,000 hz crossover will provide a terrific balanced "normal" music sound. Depending upon the type of speaker and whether or not the bass amplifier develops ten thousand watts, the driver and passenger may or may not think that they are in the center of the bass drum when Sousa's "Stars and Stripes" is played.
This is essentially what was done to my wife's...er, EX-wife's '85 5000CS AVant way back when. I have forgotten the exact crossover, but it wasn't completely bass range only....I think 20,000 but maybe 25,000 hz. And no auxilliary amplification was used. The normal Audi head unit was retained, and two new speakers were put into the rear doors of the car. Her favorite cd at the time was Barbra Streisand's collection of Broadway show tunes, and with the bass cranked a bit, the bass in "Somewhere" was remarkable.

I don't know who the other reply is from but later in the explanation the bass missing from the fronts is mentioned.
I'm no audiophile but Bass is unidirectional.
Its location in a car is not sensitive like the directional tweeters or midranges and whizzer cones.
Most are mounted in the trunk for space reasons.............although this location can "muddy" the bass. (so to speak).
