[V8] V8 Shifter Play

I don't remember if it was Motor Trend or AutoWeek, but between heaps of
praise for the 5-speed V8, one of them noted that the shifter felt like
it was connected by a bungee cord.
The V8's shifter doesn't have the sweetest of action, and it took me a
few months before I was totally comfortable with it (have you grinded
second yet?). I haven't bothered to look thru the manual for any
possible adjustment, primarily due to the three 5 speeds I've driven all
shifted the same.
If you're used to the manual transmission of a newer Honda or Nissan
(both with nice, notchy shifts), it's likely a normal condition. That
said, it's not impossible for it to be genuinely outta wack. Perhaps
someone w/ TFA handy can ID shifter bushing numbers, or a call to the
dealer may show a bushing kit.
Relatively easy job on an old Jetta, but I shudder to think what might
be involved in servicing the linkage on a V8.
