[V8] Door locks

Well, recently both linkages on my 200 have broken within 2 days of each other (unfortunately while the car is on loan to a friend...). So after 7 years of type 44 ownership, I'm finally going to get familiar with the repair procedure. Afterwards, I'll put on my to-do list the investigation (and lubrication) and possible repair of the linkage on my V8's driver's door. It may be a while, but it would sure be nice to have the functionality that Dave has, if it turns out that mine is merely broken.
Another odd point, and what prompted our further offline discussion of this today, is that I discovered yesterday that the key for my Coupe GT will unlock both the driver's door and trunk of my V8. Any idea if this is related to a possible broken linkage (at least in re the driver's door)?

That makes sense -- the secondary system seems to be working but the initial mechanical action is kaput. What started this is that a friend's '91 owned since new had never had the ability to open driver's only -- must've been broken from the get-go.
